"...She graduated in 1943 from Carthage High School and in 1944 from the Watertown School of Commerce. She was employed in the office of the Jefferson County clerk before her marriage in August, 1947, to Edward G. Casler, son of Mr. and Mrs. George A. Casler. The wedding took place in the First Methodist Church, Rev. Harold H. Barnard, then pastor, officiating.
For the past 10 years the Caslers had lived in Morrisville, PA."

Morrisville, PA--
Mrs. Maxine Shannon Casler, 49, of 131 Lyons Drive, a Jefferson County native, died Saturday evening.
According to the Falls Township (PA) Police Department, she died of carbon monoxide poisoning. Police said she was found in her car in the garage of her home. She was pronounced dead at Lowerbucks Hospital, Bristol, PA."

Harold K Shannon — First JCC Professor
Harold K Shannon, 72, of 24272 White Road, died Friday morning at his home after a long illness. He had been under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County.
Mr. Shannon was a science and math teacher at Hammond Central School from 1956 to 1959. He and his family then moved to Watertown, where he was a clinical chemist in the laboratory at Mercy Hospital from 1959 to 1963. He was also a chemistry teacher at the Simmons School of Mortuary Science, Syracuse, for a fame and a research chemist Allied Chemical and Dye Corp., Solvay.
In 1963, he was the first teacher to join the original faculty at the newly opened Jefferson Community College in the former Lansing Street Elementary School. As an associate professor, he taught biology and calculus during his first year at the college. Promoted to full professor in 1968, he continued to teach biology for a year. In 19.71, he added anatomy and physiology to his course load and was chairman of the college's science division from 1969 to 1982.
During his career at JCC, Mr. Shannon was involved in curriculum development at the School and wrote the original proposal that established the JCC Science Laboratory Technology curriculum in 1971.
In the mid-1970s, he wrote a proposal for the JCC Medical Technology curriculum. He also helped initiate a computer science curriculum, which was approved in 1984. He wrote three laboratory manuals used by students studying general chemistry I and II and anatomy and physiology.
In 1985, Mr. Shannon received the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching. He retired from JCC on Aug. 31,1986.
Born May 22, 1925, in Ernfold, Saskatchewan, son of William and Vaada Carncross Shannon, he and his family moved to the United States and settled at Goose Bay, town of Alexandria. He became a U.S. citizen and served in the Army as a medical technician in the chemical corps for three years, seeing duty in Japan for two years.
He earned a bachelor's degree in 1953 and a master's degree in 1956 from Syracuse University, where he also received a Ph.D. in science education in 1968.
He married Margaret Decker Bertrand of Hammond on July 9, 1953, in at St. Francis Xavier Church, Redwood, with the Rev. Emille Lalonde officiating She died June 7, 1991. He married June Anderson Can on Dec..5, 1992, in Brownville.
Mr. Shannon co-authored an article with Michael J. Skryta titled "Methylene Chloride in Aerosol Propellant Mixtures," which outlined less expensive chemicals for use in spray-type mixtures.
He had been a certified member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and a member of the Association of Two-Year Biology Teachers and the Association of Two-Year Chemistry Teachers.
Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Paul, Liverpool, and Jeffrey, Watertown; two daughters, Mrs. James (Linda) Gracey, Dexter, and Mrs. James (Nancy) Abbott, Watertown; two stepdaughters, Kathy Davis, Hampden Sydney, Va., and Helen Can, Fulton; a stepson, Stephen H. Can, Stanford, Conn.; a brother, Ralph, Redwood; a sister, Mrs. Charles (Virginia) Shea, Chaumont; six grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; a step-great-grandchild and nieces, nephews and cousins.
A sister, Helen Partridge, died June 14, 1991.
The funeral will be at noon Monday in Immaculate Conception Church, Brownville, with Mr. Shannon's nephew, the Rev. Douglas Decker, pastor of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Adam, officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery, Redwood
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa.
Contributions may be made to Hospice of Jefferson County.
