     "The funeral for Wendellyn A. Smith, 66, Waite Road, will be a 11 am Wednesday at TLC Funeral Home, Watertown, with the Rev. Ronald S. Farr, Pastor of Emmanuel Congregational Church, Watertown, officiating. The body will be cremated.
     Mrs. Smith was pronounced dead Thursday in the emergency room at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, after suffering injuries in a car collision at county routes 66 and 145 in the town of Adams."
     "Mrs. Smith worked for more than 20 years at the former Mercy Hospital, Watertown, as night supervisor of McAuley Hall and the Madonna Home, and for the health related department."

     Served in the Civil War, Co. "K", 106th Reg., NY State Volunteers. He was wounded in the battle of Cedar Creek, Oct. 19, 1864, and died in the hospital at Winchester, VA, 11/16/1864. He is buried in Hermon, NY Cemetery, beside his brother, Henry.

Individual Note:
     Was a volunteer in the Tryon County Militia, 1st Regiment, Col. Samuel Campbell. These county Militia Regiments consisted of volunteer local groups. The Tyron County Militia companies were later incorporated into the New York Lines, and we find the Joost Loucks is listed in the New York Lines, 1st Regiment, Col. Jose Van Schaick. He enlisted Mar 6, 1776.
After his marriage Joost Loucks settled on the south bank of the Mohawk River -- first at German Flats, where three of his children were born -- later at Indian Castle, where the three younger children were born. The family later moved north of the Mohawk to the town of Manheim.

In 1823 he accompanied his brother, Joseph, to Lowville, NY and they jointly purchased a tract of land on Tug Hill, about five miles northwest of the village. However he retained his home in the Mohawk Valley as the births of all his ten children are recorded in the Records of the Reformed Dutch Church at Stone Arabia, NY.
